Indulge in the savory delight of beef shawarma, a popular Middle Eastern dish featuring marinated beef that is slow-cooked and thinly sliced. Wrapped in warm pita bread and topped with fresh vegetables and sauces, this flavorful dish is perfect for a quick meal or a satisfying snack.

How to Make Beef Shawarma

  1. Ingredients:
    • 500g beef (sirloin or flank steak), thinly sliced
    • 3 tbsp olive oil
    • 2 tbsp vinegar (white or apple cider)
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tsp ground cumin
    • 1 tsp ground coriander
    • 1 tsp paprika
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • Pita bread or flatbreads
    • Fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers)
    • Tahini sauce or garlic sauce for serving
  2. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, combine olive oil, vinegar, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Add the sliced beef and mix well. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  3. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in batches, cooking until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes.
  4. Assemble the Shawarma:
    • Warm the pita bread. Layer the cooked beef on the bread, then add fresh vegetables and drizzle with tahini or garlic sauce.
  5. Serve:
    • Roll or fold the pita to enclose the filling. Serve immediately with extra sauce on the side.
